Guinea pigs

Sunday 8.45pm

We have two guinea pigs living with us, and I have been watching them (and so have the cats). Now guinea pigs come from South America, but these two came from the pet shop. They have probably never been outside in their lives until they came to live in our garden. Most of the time they shuffle happily around their run nibbling grass, but if a shadow falls across them they shoot for cover, instantly. I imagine that in the wild, birds if prey would be a big threat, but how do these two know that ? It must be instinctive, and that makes me wonder about us – people. What instinctive traits do we have ?
